Product Information

Hand made brass coffee mill by Historical Miller Sözen, manufacturing mortars with traditional methods since 1870. Suitable for Turkish Coffee and French Press. Coffee can be milled coarser by loosening the screw found under the mill. Hand mill is the only and the most important product enabling holding together the coffee without loosing its nice odor in its powdery form and without dispersing it, instead of grinding and scattering the coffee core. Place one by one coffee cores from the top and then rotate the upper handle with rythmic movements, and when we start to sense that pleasant odor of the coffee, we should know that we started to give the first flavor to the coffee. Hand mill is non washable. The first core milled isn't usable.

Historical Miller Sözen in Eminönü continues its existence since 1870 for five generations. Although mentorship is delivered from father to sun, the only thing everlasting is the mill itself. Hikmet Sözen on turning lathe, started working when he was 13 years old. His great grand father, Mr. İsmail was the founder of the profession. Then his grandfather and his father have taken over the profession. In the past a big furnace and bellow were in the shop "We heated the iron in the furnace and pummeled the robust in the anvil" states Sözen. Then the fine works of the mills were done with file and shaped. But now, machine of the mill is prepared in lathe. Then the yellow part at the out is assembled after threads are prepared by file. The work requires attention and patience although not that much troublesome as the past. For this reason father and son, together can only produce 10 mills.
