Canan Alimdar

Her grandmother, Nedime Hanim, was one of the unique embroderers of Covered Bazaar, Istanbul. Although Canan Alimdar was very much interested in embroidery in her teenager years, she could only start to make jewelry design when she left corporate life in 2006. After graduating from Istanbul University School of Business in 1988 with a BS degree, she made her career in the insurance sector. She initiated the life and health department of San Sigorta – today's Marsh and McLennan, trained in England at Chartered Insurance Institute, worked as a Corporate Sales Manager at Halk Yasam, Training and Sales Manager at Axa Oyak Insurance and founded her own consulting firm.

In 2006, she gave up corporate life and jumped into the world of jewellery design at the Atolier Arkaik. After a period of apprenticeship, she started to work on birds and created her own style. She took drawing lessons and attended art history seminars to learn every aspect of the craftsmenship. Nowadays, she is continuing her art at her atelier in Grand Bazaar Istanbul at the work bench of her grandmother.

Her first trio collection Mystic, Vault of Heaven, Emperor was exhibited at the historic Argos in Cappadocia. She always prefer historic venues to introduce her collections. Her following collections 'Hands on Hips' and 'İki Dirhem bir Cekirdek' were exhibited at the historic Nakkaş Cistern at Sultanahmet İstanbul.
